El sábado 7 de mayo fuimos a limpiar la playa de la Torre Derribada situada en la zona del Mar Menor. Esta limpieza la organizamos junto a Menor Plastic y Pinatar Natura, dos proyectos muy concienciados con la contaminación de los plásticos y otros residuos en las playas.
Lo primero que hicimos al llegar a la playa fue echar un vistazo y nos pareció que estaba bastante limpia, pero en solo 1 minuto sacamos todo esto.
En un solo minuto reunimos trozos de manguera de plástico, tapones y botellas de plástico, redes de pesca de plástico, colillas, trozos de bolsas de plástico, alambres, bastoncillos de plástico, envoltorios de plástico, toallitas...
Si te fijas, a la derecha verás un salvaslip desechable. ¿Sabías que las compresas y salvaslips están hechas en más de un 90% de plástico y tardan más de 800 años en descomponerse?
El 80% de los residuos que se encuentran en los océanos son de plástico según Nature Sustainability.
Todos estos residuos plásticos, se convertirán en microplásticos al degradarse y acabarán en el agua de los océanos, en el interior de los peces y en nuestro organismo.
Actualmente, hay 37 trozos de microplástico por metro cuadrado en el Mar Menor, lo que es un desastre medio ambiental y un riesgo para la salud humana y la flora y fauna de la laguna salada más grande de Europa.
Greenpeace estima que cada año más de un millón de aves y más de 100.000 mamíferos marinos mueren debido a los plásticos que llegan al mar.
Con toda esta información, nos pusimos manos a la obra a recoger toda la basura y trozos plástico que encontramos. Para que te hagas una idea de lo que acaba enterrado en la arena de la playa te dejamos este top 10 de residuos:

Como puedes ver, no toda la basura que acaba en la playa se debe a la dejadez de la gente que la visita, sino que también hay productos como las toallitas, los salvalips, tampones, etc que se tiran al váter o van a los vertederos y acaban también en el medio ambiente.
Esta es la lona gigante de plástico, calculamos que mide unos 40 metros y que se habría volado de algún cultivo agrícola cercano. Al ser tan grande y contener tanta arena, nos costó mucho desenterrarla y sacarla (pesaba unos 60Kg) pero entre todxs, lo conseguimos.
A la quedada acudimos unas 20 personas (inluyendo niñxs) y en poco más de una hora sacamos más de 80 Kg de plástico y basura en la playa.
Con las limpiezas de playa o de espacios naturales no se trata solo de dejar el medio ambiente limpio y sin residuos, también consiste en concienciar a quien va a estos eventos del problema actual.
Aún quedan personas que no están concienciadas y que tiran la basura en cualquier lado pero incluso las que sí hacemos las cosas bien y separamos y reciclamos nuestra basura también perpetuamos el problema ya que el 79% de los residuos plásticos no se recicla sino que acaba en vertederos donde se convertirán en microplásticos y pasarán al medio ambiente.
Lo que hemos aprendido de esta experiencia es que los microplásticos son una amenaza real para el medio ambiente y nuestra salud y que lo mejor que podemos hacer es evitar el consumo de productos con plástico.
